Commonly used wrench types

     The box type wrench is sometimes called a ring spanner also. Usually made of steel, it is used to tighten or loosen nuts and bolts. If you look at the design, you will see that the head is completely enclosed. This design makes it stronger than than an open ended design.
     A combination wrench usually has a open ended design on one end and boxed on the other. Both the sides will be of the same size. You can use the box end to loosen nuts and then use the open end to completely unscrew the nuts.
     Adjustable wrenches are open ended with one moveable jaw. They are designed to fit a wide range of nut and bolt sizes and are usually adjustable between two size ranges.
     A pipe wrench is similar to the adjustable one, but it is designed to grip on to objects like damaged nuts or pipework and allow the user to unscrew them.
     If you need to apply specific amount of torque to nuts and bolts, then a torque wrench is the best option. It has a socket wrench design but with special internal components and a gauge that tells you the amount of torque being applied.
