Semi automatic washing machines – Man and machine to conquer laundry
If your whole weekend is spent doing laundry, then it is
time to get a washing machine. How else would you manage between the pending
chores and enjoying the weekend? Surely you wouldn’t want to stay back in your
home doing all the works, when the city is calling you out to celebrate the
weekend.
Buying a washing machine is a big decision when there are
different varieties available in the market. You should choose one based on
your family’s needs and according to the water supply in your area. Because there
is no use buying a heavy load one if only 2 members are there and if you get
one which needs lot of water to operate, when your area only has limited water
supply, then you will be in trouble.
Semi-automatic washing machines can be considered a midway
between hand washing and fully-automatic machines. While hand washing, you have
to do all the work, but in fully
automatic washing machines, the machine does everything. Semi-automatic
washing machines require manual input in different stages, like adding or
draining water or to put the clothes in the dryer. These are a popular choice
in Indian households because they are less expensive than automatic ones.
There are 2 types of semi-automatic washing machines,
single-tub and twin-tub. These 2 are different from each other based on their
structure and the additional features that help you with the washing.
Single-tub – As the name suggests,
these only have a single tub to wash and spin clothes. Holes have been provided
in the inner layer of the machine for the water to drain out when the tub is
used for drying clothes. This type is more convenient if you have only lesser
space in your work area or if you have to place the washing
machine in the bathroom.
Twin-tub - These are the common type
of semi-automatic machine. They have 2 tubs in which 1 is used for washing,
while the other for spinning. Because the washing and drying tubs are separate,
you will have to manually move the clothes from one tub to the other.
After choosing one of the above, the next deciding factor
would be the working mechanism. Two types are available based on this –
impeller and agitator.
Impeller – This design has a rotating
disc at the bottom of the drum which creates a whirlpool effect to move the
clothes around.
Agitator – This has a central spindle
with fins that rotate to push the clothes around in alternate directions.
