A Mini Guide for Buying Microwave Oven

Cooking has undergone a lot of changes over the years. So, if you are still using the same tricks your grandma and mom used while cooking on a gas stove, then it’s time to wake up. Many parents today have found the main reason behind the improper eating habits of their kids. Atleast my mom found it out pretty fast. She noticed what I usually used to eat outside or order from a restaurant and found that it’s the dishes that are not made at our home. So, she decided to bring more diversity to her cooking and upgrade our kitchen to a modern one. The first appliance she bought was a microwave oven. Dad and I were pretty excited about what experiments she’s going do on various dishes, so we also helped her find a good microwave oven from a well known brand.

Although my mom was pretty skeptic about buying the kitchen appliance online, my dad wasn’t. He opened his shopping app on his cellphone and started browsing. We discovered that there are many popular brands selling smart and technologically advanced microwave ovens online such as Panasonic, LG, Onida, Kenstar, Samsung, Morphy Richard and Electrolux. And among the many differences, there were few common features too. So, we noted few things that would help us sorting between the models.

Types of Microwave Oven - There are three types of microwave oven available in the market.

Solo: This is an entry level model which is ideal for everyday tasks like reheating, defrosting and cooking dishes in simple processes.

Grill: This type is grill plated and comes with heating coils. It does everything that a solo microwave oven does, plus also browns and brings crispiness to the food. They are mostly used for making kababs, tikkas and toasts.

Convection: This oven is the megadrone. It has a fan and a heating element to create air flow inside and maintain a uniform heat distribution which helps you cook the food in less time. It is an all-in-one solution where you can defrost, reheat, grill food, bake cakes and muffins, prepare soup, broth and cook multiple delicacies too.

Capacity - Capacity mostly depends on your family size and usage. The ideal capacity for a family of four is between 15-30Ls. But if your family has more than four members then you will need a microwave that has 25 - 32Ls and above capacity. You would also need to ensure that the size fits your kitchen cabinet.

Features - The microwave oven available today come with various advanced features like auto cook menu, rotisserie and child lock. These make the job of cooking more interesting.

Panel Types - They are responsible for bringing flexibility and convenience to your cooking. There’s mechanical which uses knobs to control the mode of heating. There’s touch key pad panel which have an aesthetic appeal and are comfortable on your fingers. Then there’s tact dial panel which resembles the mechanical dial but is wired with electronic circuits for smooth and precise control. And the most advanced, feature touch panel which is like a touchscreen phone, only it can sense your fingers.

Once we had access to all this information, shopping for microwave oven online became a piece of cake. We selected the filters based on the capacity, features, brand and types, and were soon waiting for our order to reach our home.
